Although the Botanical Gardens were closed by the time I walked past, I was able to peer over the fence and spotted an unusual native tree species which belongs to the aloe family - the quiver tree or Aloe dichotoma. So called owing to the San practice of hollowing out the tubular branches to form quivers for arrows.
